Clearing the clutter that's blocking the real you

My last two blog posts (Finding Your Power & Who are YOU?) have focused on something I believe with every cell in my body:

Who we are AT OUR CORE, beneath all the buildup of external influences over the years, is perfect, wise and powerful beyond comprehension.

Remembering her is simply a matter of chipping away at that buildup, bit by bit, exposing more and more of the REAL us as we go.

It’s a process, but the payoff is HUGE:

By clearing the thoughts, ideas, people, objects and all the other buildup that isn’t true to WHO WE ARE, we finally begin to remember our TRUE power. We begin to KNOW who and what matters to US, not because we’ve been told it SHOULD, but because it genuinely resonates with our true SELF.

And once we get in touch with that power within us, we begin to realize that we are capable of achieving everything our soul has been craving.

It’s undeniable - The people, thoughts, ideas and objects we surround ourselves with have an enormous impact on how we feel, and over time, on WHO we feel we are.

They can support and inspire us in our pursuit of what sets out soul on fire… or they can drag us down, holding us back from all we are capable of achieving.

So why do so many of us struggle to let go of things in our lives that no longer serve who we KNOW, deep down, that we are?

And HOW do we decide what stays and what goes?

I’m excited to dive into these questions with regard to the various areas of “buildup” over the next few weeks. I hope you will find inspiration in these upcoming blog posts.

If you missed the chance to sign up for my private “Back to YOU” group, no worries! I’ll be starting a second group soon! If you’re interested, just email me let me know you want to be on the waitlist, and I’ll send details as the date approaches!

So where do we start?

By focusing on the most tangible aspect of our surroundings – physical objects.

While at first glance, this might seem superficial, it’s an aspect of our lives that has TREMENDOUS influence over our moods, our energy, our consistency in our efforts towards our goals, and so much more. As such, it is critical that we create an environment that is true to who we are, and what we want to accomplish.

Research has shown that women, primarily, are highly affected by the state of their surroundings. Excessive physical clutter can create mental and emotional stress, contributing to brain fog, insomnia, feelings of inadequacy and loss of motivation.

Objects in our environment that have specific negative thoughts or memories attached to them can have a devastating effect over time.

On the flipside, surrounding ourselves with items that call forth happy memories or inspiring moods can give us an enormous boost in our confidence, joy and overall efficiency in working toward what matters most to us.

Wherever you are in this moment, look around. What do you see in your surroundings? Consider each item one at a time.

How do you feel, IN YOUR GUT, when you look at it?

Does it lift you up?

Does it nag at you?

Does it make you angry or sad?

Do you feel neutral about it?

If you are in a space where you spend a significant amount of time, what you are seeing is likely having a subtle but constant impact on your energy and your sense of who you are, for better or for worse.

Look around again. What feels like YOU? What feels true and authentic to who YOU are? THESE are the things to highlight and bring forth, front and center, as a constant reminder of what makes YOUR heart genuinely happy.

The neutral things are exactly that – neutral – no harm.

But the things that drain your energy or in any way give you a dark feeling, those are the things to consider letting go.

Because if they’re draining your energy, they’re hold you back from everything you are capable of achieving. They are part of the buildup that’s blocking the powerful truth of who you are AT YOUR CORE.

I once had a sweater that I LOVED. But every time I looked at it, I remembered a heartbreaking moment I had experienced while wearing it. So that sweater became a source of pain for me every time I looked at it. As silly as this example sounds, every time I looked in my closet and saw that sweater, that memory came rushing back out of nowhere, forcing me to re-live the pain over and over again.

So I gave the gorgeous sweater to a friend who was thrilled to have it, and in doing so I was able to also release the memory it kept calling up.

You see, it’s OK to let go of things that cause us pain. No, it’s not always easy, but it is such a powerful step in releasing what is holding us back.

If you want to explore this process of clearing physical buildup on your own, a great place to find inspiration is Marie Kondo’s book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. In this book, Marie focuses on surrounding ourselves only with things that are useful or that genuinely “spark joy” in our hearts when we look at them, and she gives so many useful tips and tools.

No matter what approach you take, honor yourself by KNOWING that you DESERVE to be surrounded and supported by things that lift you up, that allow you to see the TRUTH of who you are.

Clearing the objects that drain your glorious energy or hold you back is the first step in chipping away the buildup, clearing our path toward getting back to US.

Next week we will take the next step together, clearing buildup that isn’t physical, but that nevertheless has a dramatic impact on our sense of SELF.

Until then, have fun with this. Letting go of even ONE thing that’s dragging you down is so liberating, and it creates a vacuum to attract more of what brings you true joy. And it allows us to focus our energy on what truly matters to US.

You’re worth it, my friend.
