We Are the Crazy Ones

“The people who achieve their dreams are the ones who are crazy enough to believe they can.”

I must have heard my dad say those words a thousand times when I was growing up. It reminds me of the quote attributed to Steve Jobs, which has become one of my absolute favs -

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo… And while some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”

Can I get a “Hell yes!” ???!!!

Here's the deal -

Our dreams are limited by one of two things:

our mind's ability to believe we can achieve them...

or our mind’s ability to talk us out of them.

I can’t possibly do that.

I’m not smart enough… strong enough… pretty enough… talented enough… personable enough… blah blah blah

I don’t have enough… time… money… inspiration… will power… motivation… blah blah blah

I’ll fail… I’ll embarrass myself… I’ll upset people… blah blah blah

No one I know has ever…

Blah blah blah

Ohhh the mind. It can be such a huge asset, and also such a royal pain in the ass.

That pesky mind will try to talk us out of our dreams almost as quickly as they come to us.

And that’s a shame. Because there is so much beauty in chasing our dreams.

I wouldn’t know where to even begin…

(ooooh that mind again…)

Stop and ask yourself this question. Don't overthink it, just answer it –

What would you do if you truly believed you COULD. NOT. FAIL?

Your immediate answer to that question is exactly what your heart wants. That is your dream.

Sure we have to be responsible adults. We have to take care of ourselves and the people who depend on us. And for most of us, those responsibilities are often overwhelming.

But let’s ask ourselves this - Could I carve out a few minutes here or there to be a little crazy today? To take one small step toward what my heart wants? Could I allow my heart to overpower my beautiful brain for just a few minutes each day?

Here’s the next question -

What if I fail?

Think about that. What happens if you go after that thing your heart is passionate about… and you fail?

I know what has happened for me in the past (on the many occasions) when I have failed -

  • I learned that I didn’t die just because I failed.

  • I learned what doesn’t work, so next time I could focus on what does.

  • I endured pain… and survived.

  • I felt completely, 100%, hide my face from the world embarrassed… and I became stronger because I realized that others’ opinions really don’t matter.

  • And most importantly, I learned that I am able to get back up… and fight on.

And THAT, my beautiful, badass friend, is the beauty in failure.

So how about this week we get a little CrAzY up in here?!

What if we let ourselves dream… just a teeny tiny bit.

What if we take one itty bitty step (or a huge freaking leap if you’re inspired to!) toward the answer to that powerful question – What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

It may sound a little crazy, and that’s AWESOME, because like my daddy always said - “The people who achieve their dreams are the ones who are crazy enough to believe they can.”

And guess what –

I believe we can.
