Shewwwie! 2020 has been a doozie. Whether personal, financial, physical, or a combination of many setbacks, so many women I talk with, myself included, have spent more of this year feeling broken, than we have feeling badass.
BUT, if there's a silver lining in all the challenges we've faced this year, it's this:
As much as the hard times hurt, they can also be the springboard for the most epic comeback of our lives!
(Can I get a "Heck yeah!!?")
A lot of my work during this roller coaster of a year has focused on allowing ourselves to feel the difficult emotions that arise during hard times; giving ourselves grace and space to be sad, angry, scared, worried, or any other emotion we typically try to push aside.
The reason for this is simple. We can only bury so much pain before it begins to manifest in other areas of our life- whether in our physical health, our work, our relationships or our mental health.
By allowing ourselves to be present to the discomfort, we also allow ourselves to be present to the lessons.
And the lessons are the gold.
The lessons are where the growth hides within the pain. So if we close ourselves off to the challenging emotions, we also close ourselves off to the opportunities for growth in every hardship we encounter.
But because we feel a societal pressure to show only our strengths, never our weaknesses, allowing ourselves to feel the emotions can be a challenge in and of itself. We believe that to admit we’ve fallen is somehow a sign of a character flaw.
Then we begin to judge ourselves for what we’re feeling, compounding the pain with guilt and self-loathing for being “weak.”
This is the exact moment when we face a choice:
We can brush the feelings under the rug and pretend we’re ok, or...
we can embrace the setbacks and seek the ways they can make us stronger, propelling us into an even more beautiful future than the one we had planned.
As 2020 comes to a close, I’ll be sharing via my next 5 blog posts, the 5 steps I use to come back stronger when I find myself in these seemingly broken states, to build myself up for an epic comeback.
This isn’t something we do once and we’re done, because setbacks are part of life’s journey. But when the tough times hit, having a roadmap to an epic comeback is incredibly empowering.
In the special From Broken to Badass series, I'll lay out specific steps for how we can use these trials as fuel to ignite the power that has always been inside us.
In doing so, we not only honor ourselves as we go through the rough patches, but we also find the hidden gems in every challenge we face...
using them to build ourselves up, instead of allowing them to make us victims.
While these steps are invaluable during life’s challenging times, they are also a strategy we can turn to regularly when things are going well, as a reset, to make sure we're taking care of ourselves and staying centered in what matters most to us and on the path that LIGHTS OUT HEARTS ON FIRE!
I will share this special series in 5 separate blog posts during the last 5 weeks of 2020. I want to offer this series as a free resource for anyone who might need some extra guidance as we close out this year, so we can build ourselves up for an epic comeback in 2021.
I invite you to join me on this journey.
2021 is going to be OUR year, and taking the time now to focus on these steps will allow us to rise into ever more powerful versions of ourselves in the new year and beyond.
And if you know of someone who has struggled this year and might find this series helpful, please share this with her.
Let’s take the lessons we’ve learned this year and OWN 2021!
